Found|Kristi Wright

Carefully placed toes and hesitant heels,
Slide fearfully into the overgrown garden.
Masked thorn and hissing vines
Hide behind a pleasant facade.
Stinging gasps from clever spikes
Make quivering muscles tense
While adjusted weight and nimble
Fingers release the captured flesh.

A renewed stance backed up by fulfilling
Breath bring firm reassurance into place,
While stubborn site searches
Across the savage growth.
A flashing white from deep within
Breaks through the bondage heap
And shows for all the armored shell
To protect tender feet.
No longer smothered and hidden
Or carelessly shoved aside,
The shoe now takes up stance
And guards the easily injured soles.
