Some books are not less stressful - if all books are happy-go-lucky then it would be boring. Todd talks about how we need conflict when writing stories. I have read some books where I got so wrapped up in it and stressed trying to figure out what was going to happen, etc. Like the Harry Potter books, those have LOTS of stressful moments in them.
However I REALLY love the last part of your line "a friend to the imagination." That is awesome.
