Mike a 24 year old college student was a little late for class that morning as usual. As he hurried to class, he hardly noticed the pedestrian crossing the road in front of him until it was too late. Eric a middle aged gentleman seemed far too friendly about the whole thing but Mike insisted on accompanying him to the hospital. Eric's leg was broken and he was pretty bruised up but he was alright. Eric asked the nurse if he could make a phone call. He calls a woman and asks her to come down to the hospital. Mike wanted to stay with Eric at least until his family showed up. They began talking and it seemed as if they were old friends. A few minutes later there was a knock at the door. Claire, a middle aged woman enters, and walks to Eric's bedside without taking her eyes off him. She places her left hand on Eric's chest and kisses his forehead sympathetically. To his surprise, Mike notices there is no wedding ring on Claire's finger. She tells Eric that she loves him and says something about finding the little monster who had done this to him. Finally, Mike can not take it anymore. He walks to the other side of Eric's bed and asks his mother what she is doing there. Eric seems just as shocked to hear the word "mom" as Claire. There is an awkward silence and then Claire speaks...
