Plot | Sara Staheli

(based on a song you've probably heard ...)
A boy around 20 wakes up early when it's still mostly dark and drives to his girlfriend's house - she's slightly older than him. He pulls in the driveway, then backs out and drives around the block for a long time. When it's fully daytime, he pulls back in the driveway. His girlfriend comes out and gets in the car. "You're late." "I know - I slept in. Sorry." They drive with the radio on to the abortion clinic. They're both upset about being there - he shows it, she doesn't. They sit in the waiting room and hold each other's hands. She gets called in for her appointment and they both get up. "Babe. You can't come with me," she says to him. She goes in for the procedure. He walks down to a small market a few blocks away and buys some flowers - carnations. The woman behind the counter is about 65. She can tell he's upset, so she says some really generic but sincere words of comfort - "This too shall pass," etc. He cries into his sleeve and she pats his shoulder. He walks back to the clinic to drive his girl home.
