Original:
We were all fine though until we saw them. Little glowing eyes in the woods next to the stream where we had gutted our fish. Great, there were bears on the island. All of a sudden our little campout didn't seem so fun.

New Sentence:
All of a sudden our little unplanned, makeshift campout in the middle of nowhere with no food and no idea of where we were at didn't seem so fun.

In context:
